Computers and your eyes

Use of a computer for prolonged periods can often annoy your eyes. A thorough examination, and careful instruction on how best to use your computer from an eye health perspective, is required.

Special filters may be incorporated in your spectacles to give you relief from discomfort, glare and strain.

If prolonged use of computers is causing you eye strain, here are some guidelines to help ease the symptoms:

  • Have your eyes checked regularly
  • Reposition the computer
  • Follow guidelines for good posture
  • Ensure proper lighting
  • Reduce glare
  • Blink frequently
  • Take regular work breaks
  • Clean the monitor regularly
  • Change to ‘blue control’ multi-coated lenses
